Walter and his band, The Repair, performed yesterday at the FireFest in Sacramento, CA. Projecting a unique sound, an eclectic mix of vintage guitars with modern synth-looped textures, the band delivered a powerful musical experience to people gathered. It occurred to me that a few years ago, this was but a dream… Well, it’s still a dream, but he’s living it! Consider for a moment the dreams and aspirations you’ve always had, and perhaps decide today, that one of those dreams are worth pursuing… Would that make you feel alive? I hope so!
Here are 7 simple but powerful steps that you can act upon, to begin moving in that direction:
- Write your dream on paper. Use your journal or some other dignified notebook. Focus on the one dream that you think will bring most excitement to your life right now. You can always repeat the process with other goals and aspirations.
- Give it a deadline. Decide when you’d love that to become a reality. Some dreams take years, others take months, or weeks. Time flows forward, so engage your dream in that forward motion!
- Break it down. Write the 3-10 main things that would need to happen in order to achieve your dream. While your dream or goal may seem far from where you are, your next intermediate goal seems a whole lot closer and possible.
- Whose help do you need? Write down the people you’d need to connect with, partner with, seek assistance from, in order to make it happen.
- Determine your next task. Write 1(ONE) thing you can do this week to move towards it.
- Schedule it. Go ahead and put it on the calendar, planner or schedule.
- Execute your next task. Do it, in fact, do it before it is due! You will feel energized and beat the static inertia of doing nothing. Once you move forward your chances of achieving your dream, are exponentially greater. In fact, go ahead and email me as you get started. Would love to know about it!
Once you achieve the first step, continue with the second step and so on, make it turn into a habit. Not only will you realize your dream earlier than you thought possible; in the process you will become a highly productive person, the kind of person most wish to have in their circle of friends. Share your dream with a trusted friend, and encourage them to hold you accountable to its pursuit.
Oh, and Walter, thank you for inspiring us to continue to live our lives with passion!

no, thank you!
